Career Planning Strategies for a Recession-Proof Career
Our country is experiencing a recession with no real relief yet in sight. The cost of living seems to be rising as salaries and wages lag. Companies are folding and the real estate market has been a bust in most parts of the U.S. Our government has no immediate remedies, and almost seems to be at a loss in regards to turning the crisis around.
With stocks crashing, wages capsizing, and jobs blowing off into the wind, the middle classes of the world have become the “poor and huddled masses.” The penny earned, penny saved creed has developed into literality, and pennies have not always been easy to come by.
Knowing the ins and outs of the recession has culminated into a realm of uncertainty for the professors and economists, and knowing how to get out of it has been, for many, seemingly impossible. Unseen since the days when U.S. Steel and the railroads were laying off masses of people and the Second World War became an unfortunate resolution to spur the economy; this market crash has seen no natural pick-me-up.
While the government attempts to infuse a level of modernity and futurism into the economy, going green and striving for new markets in energy, jobs have been created and lost and an equal pace, at best.
Recession proofing a career has come to be an all-consuming endeavor for those clinging to the wages and paychecks signed by the boss. Knowing the right steps and knowing the right precautions has allowed those in the know to hold on to jobs desperately that others have lost.
To the motivated self-starter, this blog series will assist in safeguarding against layoffs and possible reduction in pay. The person willing to put in the work and establish their name – willing to excel above and beyond the pack – will position themselves to beat the recession like no other.
By talking stepping up your game, keeping a broad perspective, considering additional education, staying aware of the market, specializing, networking, staying up to date, and developing your skills you will position yourself to emerge from this slump, remove yourself from the downturn, and beat the recession.
